Every month I receive a huge amount of information on new developments and we pass
along a small percentage, which is sort of like taking cream off the
top of new information on the subject of survival and dealing with our
diabetes as a long term "survivor".
We about a year or so ago pretty well cleared up our thinking on the
cause or what brought about diabetes, ours (and likely yours) and
decided the basic best course of action to keep our affliction (modern
man input and life style damages) from progressing.
Therefore we are
constantly watching studies and research to back up what we are doing as
the very best route for us all. If something shows up as an
improvement, an augmentation, or revolutionary we let you know right
away. and...if it is at all becoming apparent about some concept, that
we were possibly wrong in our conclusion about something, we will tell
you that right away also.
We hear from readers that share with us
something that is working for them and unfortunately do not get around
to personally trying out or checking how all of those might work for our
readers.
There is a lot of far out stuff that may turn out
to be sensational down the road, for example I just read a study on
tests to grow insulin producing genetically altered lettuce, that seems
to be working. Dry it, you eat it and adds insulin to your blood stream
but needs to be controlled in right amounts etc. Long story, Normally I
would not report that until much further down the road, but I just want
you to know there is a lot of sorting here as to what we send on to you.
Very often I come across something accidentally. This month I found a
substance (word) I have never heard of before and about six studies that
back up it working successfully.
If is something called beta-glucan.
Nothing
big and fancy, just an ingredient found primarily in Oat bran and
Barley. This substance cuts high glycemic food digestion peaks about
50% all by itself. Several studies showing that this stuff added to
anything really lowers the sugar digestion peak.
Well, you get this in
eating oat bran and it is one of our ingredients in our fiber mixture
that we also eat as sort of a breakfast cereal. We suggested making a
fiber shaker to add our fiber formula mixture (including oat bran) to
ANYTHING you eat that might cause sugar peaks. These studies just back
up that Oat bran has an ingredient that all by itself does just that.
Since this is shown to do a terrific job of lowering and
slowing digestion rates to drastically cut glycemic peaking, (all by
itself) you may want to carry around in your pocket one of those capped
shakers (former cinnamon capped shaker emptied into now unused sugar
bowl) with just Oat bran.
(or barley bran but never been able to find it.)
Remember, there were
previous studies that taking a table spoon of Meta Mucil before meals
lowered sugar peaks 20%. This is same type of high fiber thing that
only seems to be more effective. Can not find any way or anywhere to
buy this beta-can substance other then it comes in oat or barley
bran. The studies show it lowered at this rate mixed about 7 teaspoons
of high glycemic food to a teaspoon of Beta glucan.
Note: Our cereal
and fiber formula for our shaker system, you carry in your pocket or
purse on the road, for example, contained some of the following ingredients, that are ALL in the cereal recipe for example..
- Oat bran
- Flax seed ground
- Brewers yeast
- Wheat bran
- Quino ground
(Andes high altitude non gluten grain) and of course dark chocolate
cocoa, no sugar. no milk.
Let me explain that Oat bran is a bulk substance...like flour is a
bulk substance, and it is not a trade name or boxed. You buy it by the
pound. Usually 49 cents a pound all the way to 99 cents a pound on it
and wheat bran. A pound of it is about a quart size bag of the stuff
that will last you about a month, so here we have a LOW COST high
glycemic control substance you can stock every where that you might find
it useful, since it is so inexpensive. Keep in mind these bran's are
what they throw away when they refine wheat and ground oats. The people
that are still eating refined ground oats (oatmeal, oat flakes etc) are
missing this.To control your diabetes you are avoiding the refined
part and are ADDING the fiber bran part to other healthy food that for a
diabetic digests and peaks sugar too fast. These bran's added
by you as fiber, supplement, slow down digesting to cut the peaks to
more tolerable for a diabetic.
We call this adding fiber to high glycemic food "blending." In addition
to using fiber of this type to slow digesting high glycemic food, we
also point out adding meat to the high glycemic food will also slow it
as will simply adding butter (fat) high virgin olive oil, and flaxseed
oil will also have a slowing affect, though we do not have the numbers
like we do on these studies on beta-glucan in oat bran. .By the way,
butter, (grass grown, ) flax seed oil, coconut oil, virgin olive oil,
eat as much as you like, they are "health food" from my research.
NEVER eat low fat anything.
